Mathematical Modeling of the Mosquito Proboscis to study Evolution | Dr. G.K Suraishkumar | The objective of this project was to mathematically prove my hypothesis relating to the evolution of the mechanism of fluid suction by a mosquito. Apart from studying the past and present mechanism, I proposed a futuristic design of the Proboscis. Even though this design would lead to quicker suction of blood from humans it is beneficial to mankind. This is mainly because this design would end the era of mosquitoes being used as vectors for plasmodium (protozoa causing malaria). | This Research article is to be published as an online feature article in Columbia Undergraduate Research Journal (CURJ). |
Alert Mechanism for the Hearing Impaired | Dr. Anil Prabhakar, Dr. Sujatha, Dr. Nitin;Team members: Guru, Ranjani and Manoj | Our project is an attempt to assist people with hearing difficulties through an innovative technological intervention. We hope to alert the user to important sources of sound they encounter in everyday life, imperative to their independent living. In order to perform this task, we intend to tap the tactile capabilities of people with hearing disorders. |
